1) GENERAL

|1.1   LIF_NET is a family of friends who meet to enjoy computer
|      communication, in a spirit of Liberty and Friendship.

      et d'amiti‚.

1.2   Each member BBS is fully autonomous. It is, therefore,
      inherently free of dependancy upon any one source of funding,
      design or control.

      d‚finition libre de toute d‚pendance, financiŠre, de
      configuration ou de contr“le.

|1.3   It exists to meet the needs of it's individual members rather
|      than the dicatates of a central bureaucracy or other
      governance.

      que d'appliquer les d‚cisions d'une bureaucratie centrale ou de
      toute autre forme de tutelle.

|1.4   This is not a policy document, but a text offering guidelines.
|      Remember: "A person's liberty stops where the liberty of the
|      other person begins".

|1.5   Everyone is asked to comply with the LIF_NET rules in the "spirit of
|      the law" rather than by the letter.

2) ORGANISATION

|2.1   LIF_NET will be coordinated by a five member commitee, the same
|      applies to any subnet (zone, region,...).

2.1   LIF_NET sera coordonn‚ par un commit‚ de cinq membres, de mˆme
      que chaque ‚chelon (zone, r‚gion,...).

|2.2   The only REAL RULES members will ALWAYS have to observe are the
|      Conference ones, wherever they come from.

2.2   La seule VRAIE REGLE est que ses membres respecteront TOUJOURS
      celles des conf‚rences qu'ils v‚hiculent, quelle qu'elle soient.

|2.3   The structure comprises of 5 zones (according to the continent?); each
|      zone comprises of regions; each region comprises of nets.

      zone comporte des r‚gions; chaque r‚gion compte des r‚seaux.

|2.4   Each individual BBS can be a member of such a net. Any BBS can join
|      a net other than its geographical one if accepted by the host net,
|      and an agreement is made about the phone bills incurred.

2.4   Chaque serveur est membre d'un de ces r‚seaux. Un serveur peut
      ˆtre membre d'un autre r‚seau que celui auquel il appartient
      g‚ographiquement, dans la mesure ou le r‚seau h“te l'accepte,
      et qu'ils posent un accord sur les co–ts t‚lephoniques induits.

2.5   A member (named as a node) will have a node number such as

                        10x:yyzz/nnn

where     'x'  is the zone number  (2 for Europe)
         'yy'  is the region number (according to the country dial code)
         'zz'  is the net number
        'nnn'  is the node number in the net.

Special numbers

       x =  9   is the Central administrative coordination
      yy = 99   is the Zone administrative coordination
      zz = 00   is the Region administrative coordination

     nnn =  0   is the administrative coordination
     nnn =  1   is the Echo/Mail/... gate
|    nnn = 900..999 are reserved numbers for gateways....

|2.6   Each level is responsible to the level immediately above it.
|      This means that a net is free in its way of working so long as
|      the needs of the region are respected. By the same token
|      the region is free in its way of working so long as the needs of
|      the zone are respected.

2.6   Chaque niveau n'a besoin de connaŒtre et respecter que les
      besoins du niveau pr‚c‚dent. Ceci veut dire qu'un r‚seau peut
      s'organiser … sa convenance, pour autant que son interface avec
      le niveau r‚gion soit respect‚e, de mˆme que chaque r‚gion est
      libre de son organisation, pour autant que son interface avec
      les besoins de la zone soit respect‚e.

3) MEMBRES / MEMBERS

|3.1   Any BBS can be a member of any subnet that it wishes, subject to
|      the subnet commitee's approval.

3.1   Un serveur peut devenir membre d'un r‚seau, pour autant que le
      comit‚ de ce r‚seau l'accepte.

3.2   Any member BBS is always free to leave its subnet.

3.2   Un serveur membre est toujours libre de quitter son r‚seau.

|3.3   Any member BBS can be rayed from a subnet, on the subnet
|      commitee's decision. It remains free to join another subnet
|      which accepts it.

3.3   Un serveur membre peut ˆtre radi‚ d'un r‚seau, sur d‚cision du
      comit‚ de ce r‚seau. Il pourra rejoindre un autre r‚seau qui
      serait prˆt … l'accepter.

4) IMPORTANT

|4.1    This is a "dynamic rules sheet" which can be changed at anytime by
|       the general commitee to take into account improvements and with
|       a view to completion.
